As I told you, previously Merre and I are now volunteering at The Humboldt Redwoods Visitor Center. This is a great gig folks. We do 16 or fewer hours per week in the center. Merre handles the cash register and I’m the information guy and we get to meet and talk with people from all over the world. Today we had a great conversation with two ladies from Ireland and we met some folks from Bridgeport, Nebraska near where we both were raised. Turns out we had ve mutual friends.
In the center we have a book store, many souvenir items, Great exhibits reflecting the natural and cultural history of the area, movies about the redwoods and Local History and best of all the Travel Log, the first RV built by Charles Kellogg out of a single redwood log and driven around the US 1917-21 to promote the preservation of the Redwoods and help sell war bonds. Kellogg and the travel log are interesting enough to warrant a post of their own ,which I plan to do later.
The Visitor Center is a wonderful place, sometimes quite a hectic place when a tour bus pulls in, but always an interesting place which is good, since we’ll be here until the end of December. Here are some more pics of the VC. B
Sounds like a perfect job for you Bill (insert Dale here😉) – meeting and talking to world travelers .
Looking good Merre!
